In the previous tutorial, we learned about the Discussion Settings in WordPress website. In this tutorial, we are going to learn about Reading settings. Reading settings in WordPress Dashboard controls the front page display, RSS feed and search engine visibility. We will go through each setting under Reading settings in this step by step tutorial.
Let’s enter into Reading settings.
Step 1:
Login to WordPress Dashboard. Click on the Settings >> Reading menu.
Step 2:
You’ll reach to Reading Settings page.
The First setting you see is ‘Front page displays‘. It has 2 radio buttons:
- Your latest posts
This is the default setting. When it is checked, you’ll see latest posts in your home page. - A static page (select below)
If you want static page as your homepage, you should click on this radio button. After you select this option, you need to select the page that you want to have as Front page and the one where your latest posts should be displayed.
Step 3:
Next setting is for controlling the maximum number of posts that you want to display on your homepage. Default value is ‘10‘. Change it as per your requirement.
You can also control the number of posts in the syndication feeds.
You can choose to show Full text or Summary in the feed as well.
Step 4:
Next setting controls the Search Engine Visibility. If you check the checkbox, your site won’t be indexed by the search engines like Google. Leave it unchecked to enable search engine indexing.
Finally, click on the Save Changes button.
